JAKARTA - Aprilia Racing's Aleix Espargaro won the Argentine MotoGP race last weekend. This is the first MotoGP victory for the Spaniard.

But who would have thought, this victory could not happen. Aleix Espargaro admitted that he had thought about retiring early from the MotoGP race. Luckily his wife, Laura Montero, managed to persuade him to stay.

This was revealed by Aleix Espargaro during an interview with MotoGP after his victory at the Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit.

"Three years ago I had no energy. I said to my wife, 'Laura, I can't go on, I'm not enjoying it anymore. I'm still young, let's try something else.' He helped me a lot," said the former Suzuki rider.

"Also with the presence of Massimo Rivola everything began to change. I still believe in this project. In the end, we deserved this victory. We worked very, very hard," he continued.

The 32-year-old racer admits that he always returns home unhappy after a difficult race. It's hard for him to feel good about coming home in his five-year career with Aprilia.

"I'm a very passionate person. So when I came back home after a difficult weekend, which was almost all weekends during my five years at Aprilia, it was very, very difficult for me to be happy," he said.

"My wife has been very, very helpful and when I met my children it gave me an injection of positive energy. I'm very happy to have this win for them," he added.

Aleix Espargaro said being away from his family was difficult in his life and work. Naturally, if in the end, the figure of his wife and child became the first thing the rider thought of when he touched the finish line at the Argentine MotoGP.

"One of the worst things in my life and my job is being away from them. So the first thing I think about after I cross the finish line, I think about my wife and children," he said.

"There is still one week before returning home, and hopefully I can bring two trophies home. So focus on going to America," concluded the brother of Pol Espargaro.
