The Cianjur Resort Police (Polres), West Java, has stopped the investigation into the alleged malpractice case that caused children to die at the Sindangbarang Health Center, because the Indonesian Medical Disciplinary Honorary Council (MKDKI) decided not to find any violations.
"The MKDKI has decided that the elements of the crime are not fulfilled, so the investigation has been stopped because no criminal incidents have been found," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Cianjur Police, AKP Tono Listianto, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, December 27.
The Cianjur Police previously received a report from the victim's parents on suspicion of malpractice. From there the police collected evidence and asked for statements from witnesses until they conducted an autopsy.
"The evidence collected, such as medical records, remaining and drug samples, asks for related witness statements, such as medical personnel, health workers at Sindangbarang Health Center and witnesses from the complainant," he said.
His party conducted an autopsy on the victim's body and sent organ samples to the National Police Laboratory Center, and asked for expert witness testimony.
The results of the investigation showed the negligence of medical personnel because they were considered late in conducting health checks and emergency handling of victims.
Medical personnel at the puskesmas are considered not to immediately refer the victim to a more adequate health facility and do not provide explanations to the victim's parents regarding the side effects of the drug provided, and then the results of the investigation are submitted to the MKDKI.
The MKDKI then held a trial and decided that there was no violation of the discipline of the medical profession by medical personnel at the Sindangbarang Health Center as reported by the victim's parents regarding malpractice.
Tono Listianto said the case could be reopened if later other supporting evidence was found, so that the legal process or investigation was carried out again.
"When other supporting evidence is found, the case can be reopened and a re-investigation is carried out," he said.
