Russia's Cyberattack Makes Ukraine's Ministry Of Justice Service Suspended, No Data Leaked

JAKARTA - Russia's cyberattack on Ukraine's Ministry of Justice system has led to the closure of online services for weddings and other matters. The Ukrainian government said no data was leaked or stolen.

"Russia took several months to prepare for the cyberattack," Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, who is also the justice minister, told reporters.

Online services for registration of weddings, cars, births or changes in residences in Ukraine have been suspended.

The attack aims to cause panic among Ukrainians and people abroad, Stefanishyna said.

The Ukrainian security department's cybersecurity department said its main investigation was a group of hackers affiliated with Russian military intelligence (GRU) behind the attack. There has been no comment from Russia.

"The data leak has not been confirmed to date. At this stage, all registrations are suspended for security reasons," said Stefanishyna.

It will take up to two weeks to restore basic services.

As of Friday afternoon, the ministry's website stated the service system was under technical maintenance.

Both Russia and Ukraine have been hit by cyberattacks on their infrastructure during the 33-month war. Ukraine's largest mobile network operator has also been attacked.
