Maluku Quarantine Agency Destroys 80 Kg Of Dog Meat That Is Worried About Bringing Disease Pests

AMBON - The Maluku Indonesian Quarantine Agency has carried out acts of extermination against two media that carry quarantine animal disease pests (HPHK) that are not guaranteed their health from their home areas.

Two adult chickens and a total of 80 kilograms of dog meat were destroyed in two locations, namely the Maluku Quarantine Agency office and the Ambon city Passo Country.

The head of the Indonesian Maluku Quarantine, Kostan MM stated, two media carriers of HPHK want to be submitted to Ambon from the Smell of Southeast Sulawesi, unable to meet the quarantine requirements in accordance with Law 21/2019 concerning Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine.

"The media carrying the HPHK was transported using two different vessels. Dog meat used the KM Tidar ship in October 2023, while adult chickens were transported in early November 2023 using KM Dobonsolo," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, November 24.

He stated that the purpose of sending the dog meat-carrying media was to be consumed, while the chicken-carrying medium was to be maintained.

The detention was carried out by officers, because the carrier media was not accompanied by quarantine documents from their area of origin and was a carrier medium that was not allowed to enter Maluku province.

Regarding the carrier media, after being detained and given three days to the owner to complete the quarantine requirements, the owner could not complete the quarantine documents in question, then he refused and issued a Rejection Order (KH-9a) against the carrier media.

Based on the owner's statement, that the owner was unable to complete and return the carrier media to their area of origin, the Maluku Quarantine Agency destroyed animals carrying HPHK quarantine animal pests from their area of origin, as well as the inability of the owner of the carrier media to complete the official documents.

For example, official documents needed include animal health certificates, animal product health certificates, income and expenditure recommendations, to laboratory test results to ensure that animals or products from which animals are healthy, safe and can be consumed.

For poultry, he said, including adult chickens according to the Ministry of Agriculture 362/2016 concerning Maluku Province Free from Avian influenza Disease in Unggas so that all adult poultry are not allowed to enter Maluku province, where Maluku is one of three provinces in Indonesia that has been free from the disease.

The extermination of HPHK carrier media violates quarantine regulations in accordance with Law 21/2019 concerning Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine.

This, he continued, was also done to prevent the entry and spread of HPHK and maintain the health of animals and their products in Maluku province as well as to disseminate information to the public regarding the duties, principal and functions of quarantine.

"Our hope is that it can have a deterrent effect on perpetrators of violations of regulations, the Maluku Indonesia Quarantine will continue to be committed as the frontline in protecting the king's earth against the threat of animal, fish and plant diseases and their products for the sustainability and security of the surrounding community," he said.
