SURABAYA - Vice Presidential Candidate Mahfud MD talks about the character of Madurese, their birthplace. Mahfud emphasized that Madurese were consistent and obedient to Ulama.

Mahfud today met residents who filled the Morkekek Field, Labang District, Bangkalan Regency, East Java.

Residents welcomed his arrival since arriving at the foot of the Suramadu Bridge on the Surabaya side, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, November 18.

Those driving two- and four-wheeled vehicles and some walking hand in hand led them to the location of the event at the Morkekek Square, which is not far from the exit of the Suramadu Bridge on the Madura Island side.

Mahfud's visit was the first in his homeland since being appointed by the General Elections Commission (KPU) as a vice presidential candidate paired with Ganjar Pranowo, promoted by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, the United Development Party, the People's Conscience Party, and the Indonesian Unity Party.

Residents who welcomed him expressed support for Mahfud as a vice presidential candidate in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu)

However, the son of Madura reiterated that it is not yet time for the campaign.

Mahfud explained that his arrival was to socialize so that Madurese could play a role in the success of holding a peaceful and conducive 2024 General Election.

"The Madurese have a firm stance. In addition, they also have a consistent and obedient attitude to the ulama. Therefore, please consult later on all matters related to the 2024 General Election, apart from volunteer organizations, are to the ulama," he said.

Mahfud's socialization of peaceful elections to the people on Madura Island today was also held in Sumenep Regency.

According to Mahfud, holding a peaceful and conducive 2024 election is very important because it chooses leaders in the legislature and executives who will determine the direction of the development of the Indonesian nation for the better.
