Calls Israel Has Security Responsibility In Gaza After War, PM Netanyahu: No Time Limit

JAKARTA - Israel will have an overall indefinite security responsibility in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, after the war, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed in an interview.

PM Netanyahu said Gaza must be ruled by those who do not want to continue the ways of the Hamas militant group.

"I think Israel, for an indefinite period of time, will assume overall security responsibilities, as we have seen what happens when we don't have it," he said in an interview on ABC News, citing CNN November 7.

On the same occasion, PM Netanyahu repeated that Israel would not agree to a ceasefire, until Hamas released the entire hostage.

However, PM Netanyahu said he was open to short breaks.

"As far as the tactical break is small, one hour here, one hour there. We've had it before, I think we'll check things out to allow the entry of aid, humanitarian aid, or our hostages, individual hostages to leave. But I don't think there will be a general ceasefire," he explained.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said his party together with a number of countries discussed various possible changes related to Gaza's future after the war, with Hamas no longer in power there, but Israel also did not control the enclave.

What makes the most sense at one point, Blinken said, is "The effective and revitalized Palestinian Authority" to have a government over Gaza, but the question is whether it can be achieved.

"And if you can't, then there are other temporary arrangements that might involve a number of other countries in the region. This may involve international agencies that will help provide security and governance," Foreign Minister Blinken said.

Meanwhile, White House national security spokesman John Kirby last week confirmed that Uncle Sam's country would not send peacekeepers to Gaza.
