Chairman Of PP Muhammadiyah Calls The Political Contestation Process Must Prioritize Luhur Value

JAKARTA - PP Muhammadiyah stated that the political contestation process must always prioritize noble values that have been a guide for the people of Indonesia.

"This political contestation must stand tall above noble values, namely religion, Pancasila, and national culture that form political ethics," said PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir quoting Antara.

This was conveyed by Haedar Nashir in response to the political situation in the country ahead of the 2024 presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Not only that, he encouraged the constitution to become a solid foundation in politics so that there should be no process or attempt to abuse the constitution itself.

"We want political contestation and power to remain above the constitution itself," he said.

In addition, he appealed to each presidential candidate and prospective vice presidential candidate, winning team, volunteers, and the general public to continue to prioritize a sense of brotherhood in carrying out the democratic party.

Because, he said, do not let differences in political attitudes actually damage the sense of brotherhood among the nation's children. Moreover, in the political contestation stage, there are parties who abuse power and authority for the benefit of a group.

"You can compete but brotherhood must be solid and prioritize 'fair' politics," he said.

Haedar hopes that the 2024 General Election will become a new era for a substantive democratization process so as to produce quality leaders, continue to advance the nation and state.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has received the registration of three pairs of candidates for president and vice president for the 2024 presidential election, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md, and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

The KPU has also set an election campaign period which will take place from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024, while the vote is scheduled for February 14, 2024.
