JAKARTA - Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha clarified the issue of Indonesian volunteers at Indonesian hospitals who reportedly died in Gaza, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas group.

News about a volunteer named Ahmad Hasyim who died as a martyr circulated on social media from Ustaz Salim A Fillah's Instagram account.

"According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' data regarding Indonesian citizens in Gaza, there are no Indonesian citizens with the name Ahmad Hasyim," Judha said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 31.

He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had contacted Ustaz Salim A Fillah to check the information and received an explanation that the volunteer who died was not an Indonesian citizen, but a Palestinian local resident.

Judha then confirmed that 10 Indonesian citizens who were still in Gaza, including three volunteers at the Indonesian Hospital, were in a safe condition.

"All 10 Indonesian citizens in Gaza are currently in safe condition," he said.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lalu Muhamad Iqbal expressed his condolences for the death of Palestinian Ahmad Hasyim, a Gaza volunteer who works for one of Indonesia's humanitarian institutions.

"We express our condolences and deep condolences for the death of the deceased," said Iqbal.
