JAKARTA - Chairman of the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MKMK) Jimly Asshiddiqie confirmed that the verdict on reports of alleged violations of the code of ethics of the Constitutional Court (MK) judges will be released no later than 7 November.

Currently, the MKMK is handling reports of alleged violations of the code of ethics on the Constitutional Court's decision which allows regional heads not yet 40 years old to run as presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

Jimly explained that the consideration of the target time for resolving the handling of this case was before the deadline for proposing a replacement presidential and vice presidential candidate.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set a replacement period for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2024 General Elections from 26 October to 8 November.

"Because there is a request from the applicant so that the decision if possible before the 8th. The 8th is the last chance for candidate change. We discuss it, the conclusion is that we fulfill the request," said Jimly at the Constitutional Court Building, Central Jakarta, Monday, October 30.

Actually, the Constitutional Court has 30 days to decide on alleged violations of the Constitutional Court's code of ethics, starting from October 24 to November 24.

However, Jimly did not want any party to accuse the MKMK of deliberately slowing down the handling of cases over the decision that paved the way for Gibran Rakabuming Raka to run as a vice presidential candidate.

"Actually, this is already too fast to work. Our job should be 30 days. However, later someone will think, 'Wow, this is deliberately delayed'," said Jimly.

"So, we agree on the decision on the 7th and besides that, this is also for the purpose of ensuring that our political society gets legal certainty and justice," he added.

Today, the Constitutional Court continues its agenda for handling cases by examining all constitutional judges for reports of alleged violations of the code of ethics in the Constitutional Court's Decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023. So far, there have been 18 related reports handled by the MKMK.
