Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi hopes that there will be an underground road orunderpass at the Taman Pelangi Roundabout to relieve congestion on Jalan Ahmad Yani, Kota Pahlawan, East Java.
According to him, in his statement in Surabaya, East Java, Wednesday, the city government is still analyzing whether the area is more suitable to build aunderpass or overpass/flyover (flyover bridge).

Eri revealed that the construction of the connecting road in the Taman Pelangi Roundabout area is planned to be carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PPUR). Meanwhile, the costs for its construction will be charged through the state budget (APBN).
Eri Cahyadi explained that if the connecting road will be built by theunderpass, then the Surabaya City Government must automatically change the flow of the river first. Because, under the Taman Pelangi roundabout, there is a river flowing from Jalan Injoko to Jalan Jemursari Surabaya.
"If theunderpass, then we will change the flow of the river. So, if (underpass) under the river is not possible, yes it can, but the price will definitely be expensive, so the river is cut off, we change the flow," he said.
According to him, the scheme to change the river flow is something that is possible to work on. This is because the burden of the river flow from Injoko towards Jalan Jemursari has previously been cut and turned towards CITO with the construction of a new channel.
"We made a new channel, right, to CITO, we immediately crossed it to Korem (Jalan Siwalankerto). So, God willing, the burden on Jalan Jemursari will no longer be heavy," he said.
