Indonesia Targets Investment Of 6 Billion US Dollars For Green Tourism

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is targeting investment value obtained of up to USD 6 billion from US investors for the development of green tourism areas.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said the investment target of US investors could be achieved within the next three to five years or even sooner than that.

"Sebanyak 5-6 miliar dolar AS yang Indonesia target bahkan tadi beberapa perusahaan Amerika Serikat yang telah menyatakan minat kepada saya untuk berinvestasi di sektor pariwisata hijau di Indonesia," kata Sandiaga dilansir ANTARA, Selasa, 24 Oktober.

This statement was conveyed by Sandi in the AmCham Indonesia 11thUS-Indo Investment Summit 2023 event entitled Mapping the Legacy, Navigating the Future at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

Sandi said he had received direct statements of interest from US companies to invest include Marriott Group, MasterCard, and several other large companies from Uncle Sam's country.

The Indonesian government's commitment to focus on implementing environmentally friendly green tourism is one of the factors that spark interest from the company.

The focus of investment lies in the development of environmentally friendly hotels, such as the use of new and renewable energy (EBT), waste management, and more efficient use of water.

"For that we (Kemenparekraf) can guide them 15-20 percent above the government's target." he said.

Previously, according to Sandi, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy had accepted an agreement to build two to three hotels with a total investment of 500-700 million US dollars in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), then the construction of a tourism resort in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

The facility began construction at the end of 2023 and will be managed by companies based in the United States, one of which is the Marriott Internasional Group and The Ritz-Carlton.

Sandi said he was optimistic that investment in the green tourism sector would achieve the target and have a positive impact on Indonesia, both in terms of socio-economics and the environment.

"Especially being able to create new jobs, encourage economic growth, and improve the quality of the environment from sustainable tourism," said Sandi.
