KPK Strengthens Anti-Corruption Cooperation With ACB Brunei

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) strengthens cross-border anti-corruption cooperation with the Brunei Darussalam Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

"Indonesia and Brunei have many common characteristics, this is included in the framework of history, culture, and religion. In fact, since building diplomatic relations in 1984, Indonesia and Brunei enjoyed a warm and friendly relationship. It is an honor for us that ACB can visit and exchange knowledge about eradicating corruption," said KPK Deputy Chair Johanis Tanak in his statement quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 24.

Tanak said the KPK and ACB had collaborated since 2004 through the ASEAN-Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN-PAC) Memorandum of Understanding, along with two other Southeast Asian countries, Malaysia and Singapore.

So far, the KPK and ACB have cooperated in exchanging information and data, facilitating investigation, investigation, and prosecution activities for corruption, as well as employee capacity development programs.

"In the interest of studying potential corruption, the KPK has also requested ACB assistance related to Brunei Darussalam coal data imported from Indonesia, and ACB has invited the KPK as a resource person and participant for the capacity development program organized by ACB," said Tanak.

During the two-day visit, the Brunei Darussalam ACB delegation is scheduled to participate in a series of sharing sessions on corruption prevention through increased transparency in the implementation of public services, anti-corruption education participation in universities and collaboration with universities, as well as introduction and explanation of anti-corruption education center work programs. Furthermore, the delegation will also visit the Confiscated Property Storage House (Rupbasan).

Tanak hopes that this visit and activity can be useful to increase efforts to eradicate corruption, as well as to replicate similar activities, especially in Brunei Darussalam.

Tanak does not want this bilateral meeting to only bring positive results for increasing bilateral cooperation between the two countries, but also further strengthen cooperation, especially in the Southeast Asia region.

"Hopefully after this there will be no more corruption and we hope that 100 years of Indonesia's independence in 2045, Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region, can be zero corruption," he hoped.

As for the delegation, namely, the Director of ACB Brunei Darussalam and the Chairman of the Datin Delegation, the Ally of Hajah Anifa Rafiza bint Haji Abd Ghani, Assistant Director Head of ACB Kuala Belait Branch Haji Mohd Shafie bin OKMB Haji Othman, Assistant Director Head of Investigation ACB Morshidi bin Metussin, ACB Special Investigation Officer Jamaluddin bin Jaya Senior Acting, and Special Investigation Division Investigator Rashid bint.

Director of ACB as well as Chairman of the Datin Delegation Delegation DeJak Hajah Anifa Rafiza binti Haji Abd Ghani explained that his presence this time was aimed at exchanging information and experience about the corruption eradication strategy carried out by the KPK. The reason is, Anifa sees that there are various corruption cases that have been handled by the KPK in Indonesia.

"We need to learn a lot from the KPK. I hope that we can also be given an understanding of the training centers here, as well as learn about their intelligence. I was told that the KPK intelligence was very good," he explained.

Tanak welcomed the request. He said that the KPK's training center, The Anti-Corruption Learning Center (ACLC), is an anti-corruption education and learning center aimed at various people in Indonesia.

Managed by the Deputy for Education and Community Participation of the KPK, ACLC also collaborates with third parties to collaborate, such as with law enforcement agencies to educational and training institutions in Indonesia. ACLC also comes online through aclc.kpk.go.id.
