Dahnil: Prabowo And The Vice Presidential Candidate List For The 2024 Presidential Election No Later Than Tuesday

Spokesperson for the Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, said that Prabowo, who has been promoted as a presidential candidate from the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM), will register with the General Elections Commission (KPU) along with his future vice presidential candidate (cawapres), no later than Tuesday, October 24.

"Prabowo and his partner will register no later than Tuesday," Dahnil said during the Declaration of the Prabowo National Command Post in Jakarta, Sunday, October 22.

Dahnil explained, on Sunday afternoon the Gerindra Party together with other parties that are members of KIM will hold a meeting to finalize the name of the prospective vice president candidate who will accompany Prabowo Subianto. The Gerindra Party will officially announce the name of Prabowo's companion at the national leadership meeting (rapimnas), Monday, October 23.

"In the meeting, differences of opinion may occur, and the results will be decided together to determine who officially accompanies Prabowo Subianto," said Dahnil.

He said Prabowo was waiting for permission from President Joko Widodo before announcing the vice presidential candidate who would accompany Prabowo in the 2024 Presidential Election. Dahnil added, in the context of ethics, permission from his superiors is a must.

This makes Prabowo not yet announce who the vice presidential candidate is, even though the other two pairs, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD and Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, have already registered with the KPU, last Thursday.

"Prabowo is waiting for President Jokowi's permission, because Pak Prabowo is indeed Pak Jokowi's subordinate," said Dahnil.

Prabowo has submitted two letters to President Jokowi. The first letter is a request for permission to participate in the 2024 presidential election which was sent on October 18, 2024. The second letter is a request for leave for registration as a presidential candidate from October 19 to October 25, 2023.

Dahnil said that the two letters had been answered by the state secretary (sesneg), and President Jokowi had given permission.

"Alhamdulillah, the two letters have been answered and Pak Prabowo has received permission from President Jokowi. This registration will take time, so permission is needed for leave," said Dahnil.
