Heavy Rain On Palembang After 2 Months Of Drought

PALEMBANG - Heavy rain finally fell on the city of Palembang, South Sumatra, after facing almost two months of drought or no rain in this city.

"We are grateful that heavy rain has finally fallen in Palembang City and we hope that this rain can overcome the problem of air pollution due to smoke haze caused by forest and land fires (karhutla)," said BMKG Observation and Information Coordinator Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin (SMB) II Palembang Sinta Andayani quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 18.

Through mapping a few days ago, based on BMKG monitoring, there was potential for rain on 19 and 20 October 2023.

However, it could be that the time shifts faster with the weather modification technology (TMC) team which has really helped the potential for rain to be maximized.

"For example, if the potential for rain is very low, it could be because of the weather modification process by TMC that it could rain or increase the intensity of the rain," he said.

With this rain, it is hoped that the smoke in Palembang City which causes ISPU to enter the dangerous category can be overcome. Apart from that, it is hoped that other areas in South Sumatra that are experiencing forest and land fires will start to fall soon and forest fires can be overcome.
