Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD was happy after being announced as a vice presidential candidate accompanying Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres). The announcement of Mahfud's name as the vice president's companion to Ganjar was conveyed by PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri accompanied by the general chairman of other supporting political parties. Meanwhile, in the 2019 presidential election, Mahfud almost paired with Joko Widodo. However, the decision changed in the final minute because political parties chose to pair Jokowi with Ma’ruf Amin in their second term.
