KSAL Invites Attorney General To Cooperate In Law Enforcement At Sea

JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali invited Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to form law enforcement cooperation at sea considering the various criminal acts that threaten Indonesian waters ranging from smuggling to TIP.

Admiral Ali said that the modus operandi of criminals at sea was increasingly varied, so close coordination between the Indonesian Navy and the attorney general was important.

"Indonesia has a potential marine wealth so that it has the potential to be glimpsed by other countries. It can have an impact on transnational crimes such as violations of territorial areas, illegal fishing (illegal fishing), illegal mining (illegal mining), trafficking (smuggling) narcotics to terrorism," said Kasal in his meeting with the Attorney General.

He continued that currently there are 12 agencies whose working areas are in Indonesian waters, including the Indonesian Navy and the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla).

"All investigations into marine crimes need to be coordinated between parties properly," said Admiral Ali as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 17.

During the meeting, Burhanuddin welcomed the initiative from Admiral Ali. The Attorney General said that currently there is a Deputy Attorney General for Military Crimes (Jampidmil) in charge of handling criminal acts in the connectivity mechanism.

Jampidmil, the Attorney General stated, could help enforce the law currently carried out by the Indonesian Navy in Indonesian waters.

He continued that close cooperation and coordination between the two institutions requires strengthening clear facilities and infrastructure and regulations so that law enforcement does not overlap.

"I hope that in the future, education and joint training will need to be carried out to build the same mindset/perception between law enforcers. Education and training are part of the exchange of information and sharing knowledge (exchange of insights)," said the Attorney General.
