JAKARTA - The chairman of the PSI DPP, Dedek Prayudi, stated that the lawsuit on the minimum age limit for presidential and vice presidential candidates he proposed was not related to the issue of the Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka being the vice presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

This was conveyed by Uki, as Dedek is called, responding to the trial for the judicial review decision which will be held by the Constitutional Court (MK) on Monday, October 16.

"Actually, there is nothing (related to Gibran)," said Uki at the Jokowi National Secretariat office, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 10.

Uki stated that the idea of suing the minimum age requirements for presidential and vice presidential candidates from the previous 40 years to 35 years emerged at the end of 2022. Uki stated that he only intends to open the widest possible space for young people to become active subjects in the world of politics, such as public policymakers and leaders in political parties.

"We are worried because the political participation of young people in Indonesia is so low. We see that these young people feel that the hustle and bustle of politics is not touching their skin," he said.

After going through the discussion process, PSI concluded the low participation of young people on the political stage because they were only five-year objects.

"At that time, who would have thought that the political dynamics were so fast in 2023, then from the end of July to last August, Mas Gibran's name rose as RI 2 in surveys if I'm not mistaken, it was up to three. We didn't think, when we did this (the lawsuit) I didn't think about it," he explained.

Previously, PSI had also filed a similar lawsuit, namely the age limit for regional head candidates in 2019. For this reason, Uki emphasized that the age requirements for presidential and vice presidential candidates he proposed were not only related to PSI or Gibran or one or two certain young people.

"This is a matter of 21 million young people aged 35 to 39 years," he explained.
