40 East Aceh Fishermen Arrested Again Thai Authorities

As many as 40 fishermen from East Aceh Regency were again caught by Thai authorities for entering the marine territory of the local country.

"Yes, that's right, there were about 40 Acehnese fishermen who were caught by Thai authorities last night," said Head of Panglima Laot Aceh, Miftach Tjut Adek, in Banda Aceh as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 9.

Miftach said the 40 fishermen came from the port of Idi East Aceh. They are from three different fishing vessels.

A total of 12 people used the KM Rahmad Jaya 29 growthstone (GT) ship. Then from KM Iklas Baru 24 GT as many as 16 people, and KM Kambia Star 2 crew 25 GT.

"They are from three ships moving from the port of Idi East Aceh. They were arrested 75.8 nautical miles from Phuket," he said.

After being arrested, said Miftach, the Acehnese fishermen were immediately taken to Prom Lam Thep Chelong Police for further treatment.

"We have reported this to the Aceh Government, and their complete identity is not yet known," said Miftach Tjut Adek.

Previously, on Saturday (26/8), two fishing trawlers with 29 fishermen from Aceh were also caught by the navy or coast guard officers in Thailand, for allegedly entering the country's maritime territorial limit.

The 29 fishermen have undergone trials in the country, and have been sanctioned by each fisherman.

Panglima Laot is an Aceh traditional marine institution that oversees fishermen in Aceh. All problems related to the sea in Aceh cannot be separated from the authority of the institution.
