Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno asked law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate the fire incident at Way Kambas National Park (TNWK), Lampung.

"First, this must be investigated from the modus operandi whether this is intentional, if so, then there must be a applicable criminal law," said Minister Sandiaga, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 9.

The statement was made by Minister Sandi in a press conference "The Weekly Breif With Sandi Uno" which was broadcast online from the Office of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

According to him, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is coordinating with cross-ministerial institutions to encourage legal clarity regarding the fire incident.

Based on reports received, the fire incident that occurred on Wednesday (4/10) scorched 200 hectares of land and threatened the sustainability of the ecosystem in Way Kambas National Park.

"So this is important so that it doesn't happen again. We are struggling to promote green tourism, but if something like that happens then it becomes an extraordinary challenge for us," he said.

In addition, he also said, his agency is currently coordinating with the management of the national park to strengthen efforts to socialize and educate the public regarding matters that should be avoided while in the national park area.

For example, it is like not starting a fire because it will be fatal in responding to prolonged dry weather due to the current natural phenomenon of the El-Nino storm.

"So this is what we will continue to work on with national park managers," he said.
