JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects that former Yogyakarta Customs Chief Eko Darmanto received gratuities through certain accounts. This allegation was investigated by three witnesses.

Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said the three people who were questioned on Thursday, October 5, namely Rudi Hartono, M. Yusuf Barusman, and Rony Faslah who were private parties. All three were examined regarding the alleged receipt of gratuities by Eko.

"The three witnesses were present and their knowledge was investigated, among others, related to the alleged receipt of gratuities by the party designated as a suspect in this case with the pattern of handing over money through bank account transfers," Ali told reporters in a written statement, Friday, October 6.

It has not been specified how much money Eko allegedly received. However, information circulating that the former customs official received money from a number of parties through his company's account at the state-owned bank.

Sources revealed that money was included in the account from a company. Eko then allegedly used it to pay down payments (DP) as well as installments for two luxury cars branded Mercedes Benz and BMW.

Even so, Eko has evaded the ownership of the holding account. However, he admitted that he was paying in installments of luxury vehicles.

This confession was conveyed after he was questioned as a suspect on Friday, September 15. "(The purchase of Mercedes Benz and BMW, ed) is still in installments until now. Yes (still in installments, ed)," he told reporters at the KPK's Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.
