Minister Of Manpower Sets 6 Pilot Villages For Handling PMI In Tulungagung

The Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) has determined that there are six pilot villages for handling Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Tulungagung Regency, East Java.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziah during a visit to the "PMI pocket" villages in Tulungagung Regency and had an interactive dialogue with migrant workers abroad.

"PMI must be educated about the protection of PMI abroad, strengthening the economy of PMI families, parenting, strengthening the family's economy through cooperatives, facilitating services for CPMI and so on," said Ida quoting Antara.

According to him, there are many things that will be done to pay more attention to PMI, both CPMI, PMI, and PMI who have retired.

An interactive dialogue with PMI from the six villages was conducted in Pagersari Village, Kalidawir District.

The six PMI pilot villages set by the Minister of Manpower are Pagersari, Miringambar, Betak, Tunggangri, Jatidowo, and Sumberagung villages.

Not only in Tulungagung, but interactive dialogue related to Indonesian Migrant Workers is also carried out with 500 villages in Indonesia.

Ida added that her party had formulated a solution to this problem, one of which was by facilitating CPMI services to foreign company partners.

"If someone leaves illegally, of course the Ministry of Manpower cannot do much if there is a problem, it will also harm PMI itself," he said.

Tulungagung Regent Maryoto Birowo said that for a year there were around 5 thousand Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) who were dispatched to their respective destination countries.

However, his party could not calculate the exact number of PMIs from Tulungagung, because some PMIs departed with unofficial and unrecorded routes at the Ministry of Manpower.

"PMI from Tulungagung is a foreign exchange hero, it reaches around Rp. 2 trillion more per year," said Maryoto.
