BRIN Releases IRIF, Infrastructure-Mobility Grant Scheme For Researchers

JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) launched a research and innovation funding scheme or the Indonesian Research and Innovation Fund (IRIF) to optimize funding for researchers. "IRIF is a collection of BRIN function schemes as funding agency, so it not only provides research grants in the form of money, but also infrastructure and mobility of researchers," said BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko at the launch of the IRIF conducted at a research and innovation exhibition entitled Indonesia Research and Innovation Expo or InaRI Expo in the Soekarno Integrated Science Zone (KST), Cibinong, West Java, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, confiscated by Antara.

The IRIF scheme strengthens BRIN's role in carrying out integrated funding tasks and functions in the fields of research and innovation. So far, various research facility schemes have been made and utilized by researchers from various circles in the country, both from BRIN, universities, the private sector, industry, and the general public.

Deputi Bidang Fasilitasi Riset dan Inovasi BRIN Agus Haryono menambahkan, IRIF menjadi jembatan atau hub yang menghubungkan para periset dalam negeri dengan periset dari berbagai lembaga riset di luar negeri.Skema itu menjadi satu-satunya lembaga pendanaan terintegrasi di dalam BRIN bidang riset dan inovasi di Indonesia.Mekanisme pemanfaatan IRIF menggunakan pola kerja sama internasional di bidang riset dan inovasi, artinya pihak luar negeri dapat melakukan riset di Indonesia atau sebaliknya melalui skema kerja sama kedua belah pihak.Riset bisa didanai oleh kedua belah pihak, hal ini biasa terjadi dengan mekanisme pendanaan bersama.

Agus gave an example of Japanese researchers wanting to collaborate research with Indonesia in the food sector, so through bilateral cooperation between IRIF and Japanese funding agency, IRIF financed Indonesian researchers. Meanwhile, Japanese researchers are financed by Japanese funding through a joint funding mechanism. He hopes that the launch of IRIF can build collaborations in international research and establish more networks, so that existing research resources in BRIN can be utilized not only by domestic researchers, but also researchers from abroad.
