Leaking Gas Cylinder, Padang Restaurant In Duren Sawit Burns

JAKARTA - A total of 4 food stalls on Jalan Pondok Kopi Raya, RT 04/06, Pondok Kopi Village, Duren Sawit District, East Jakarta, were scorched by fire on Wednesday, September 20, morning.

The fire spread so quickly that it crushed warteg restaurants, Padang restaurants, fruit shops and ramen noodle kiosks. As a result of the fire, four kiosks owners suffered losses of up to Rp370 million.

The fire scorched about 80 meters in the area of the 4 kiosks. The fire was extinguished after 12 fire engines were extinguished.

"The cause of the fire came from a gas leak in the Padang restaurant. The workers were cooking food. There was no explosion." said Head of East Jakarta Gulkarnat Sub-dept., Gatot Sulaeman, Wednesday, September 20.

A total of 48 personnel were deployed at the fire site to work hard to extinguish the fire. The fire incident had caused traffic around the location of the fire to congested.

Jamal, one of the employees at the Padang restaurant, said the fire started when workers were cooking food.

"Again, another (red) gas stove, the gas is leaking. It's turned off but the fire is already big, it can't anymore. (fire) From Padang stall, cooking (food)," he added.
