Governor Khofifah Hopes Cheap Markets Can Stabilize Food Prices

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa hopes that cheap market activities and social assistance in various cities/districts can reduce prices so that they become stable and the pace of regional inflation is controlled.

"We are preparing food prices that are cheaper than the market price. Yesterday we did the same thing in several other places. Hopefully this can ease the burden on the community," said Governor Khofifah while reviewing the East Java Provincial Government's Cheap Market activities at the Bakorwil Madiun office, Madiun City, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 19.

The cheap market in order to welcome the 78th anniversary of the East Java Provincial Government's Anniversary and stabilization of the prices of basic goods was held by the East Java Industry and Trade Office with Bulog. Several types of basic commodities provided and sold are below the Highest Retail Price (HET).

Such as medium rice at a selling price of Rp. 10,200 per kilogram, sugar at a price of Rp. 13,000 per kilogram, cooking oil is sold at a price of Rp. 13,000 per liter, broiler eggs at a selling price of Rp. 23,000 per kilogram, and garlic for Rp. 28,000 per kilogram.

Governor Khofifah said that the operation of the cheap market had taken place in a number of locations. Previously, the Governor also reviewed the operation of cheap markets in Jombang Regency and Bondowoso Regency.

It is planned that the activity will be held in rotation at various points in East Java. Where at every point, rice, cooking oil and sugar are required to be sold cheaply below market prices.

Not only reviewing low-cost market events, the Governor of East Java also distributed social assistance for extreme underprivileged residents.

Mayor of Madiun Maidi expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the East Java Provincial Government. This activity is believed to be very helpful for the people of Madiun City. Moreover, currently a number of basic necessities, especially rice, are unstable. The presence of cheap markets is certainly highly anticipated by the public.

"This is very good. This activity is very helpful for the wider community. People who need this program please take advantage of it," said Mayor Maidi.

The Madiun City Government also has a number of programs to reduce commodity prices and keep regional inflation under control.

Namely, market operations programs as well as stalls suppress inflation. These programs are still running and are quite in demand by the public.
