SORONG - The Operational Team of the West Sorong Police, Sorong Police, Southwest Papua arrested two perpetrators of theft of 13 units of affixed motorbikes, one of whom was an active police officer.

Sorong Police Chief Kombes Happy Perdana Yudianto while examining evidence at the West Sorong Police, Tuesday night said the two perpetrators with the initials IS(20) and ID(17) were arrested on September 8, 2023 at their residence in BTN Sorong City.

"One of the perpetrators is an active police officer who works at the Sorong Police," said Kombes Happy Perdana.

This theft case, he said, occurred on September 6, 2023, involving six perpetrators in the warehouse of PT Desuka Abadi, Sorong City. 13 units of Yamaha brand attached motorbikes managed to steal them.

"Of the six perpetrators, we managed to arrest two of the perpetrators, while the other four perpetrators were included in the wanted list category," continued the police chief.

When arrested, the police secured evidence in the form of eight units of affix 15 PK, then five other units were suspected of having been sold by the perpetrators.

"We have pocketed the identities of the other four perpetrators of the theft, we just need to find out the exact position and immediately we will make efforts to force arrest them. We also already know where and who has purchased the five stolen attached motorbikes," said Kombes Happy.

Regarding the involvement of police officers at the Sorong Police, the Sorong Police Chief has reported the matter to the Sorong Police Chief and the West Papua Police Chief.

"Currently we are still developing, but based on the results of the preliminary examination, the two perpetrators have indicated that they have committed several crimes of theft at other crime scenes," said the Sorong Police Chief.

Meanwhile, the motive for the theft that has been carried out by the perpetrators is related to economic problems.

"To account for their actions, the two perpetrators were charged with Article 363 paragraphs 1 to 3E and 4E of the Criminal Code, with the threat of a year's sentence of imprisonment," said the Sorong Police Chief.
