Mahfud MD: Team For Accelerating Legal Reform Immediately Report To President

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said the Legal Reform Acceleration Team had produced dozens of recommendations for the priority agenda for accelerating legal reforms which would soon be reported to President Joko Widodo.

"I accept the results which are generally good. The President does see an urgency to reform the legal field, which then asks the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to make improvements, and follow up, including by forming a Team for the Acceleration of Legal Reform, which we will immediately convey to the President," Mahfud said in a statement reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 12.

This was conveyed by Mahfud after the last coordination of the Legal Reform Acceleration Team with members and each Head of Pokja at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs building, Jakarta.

Some of the participants were present in person and the rest, especially those outside the city, were present online.

Each Pokja delivered a final presentation to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs who immediately received a response from Coordinating Minister Mahfud MD.

The results of this priority agenda recommendation are planned to be submitted to the President on Thursday (14/9), so that the government will further reform and reform in the field of law.

"We will jointly submit recommendations for this priority agenda to the President," said Mahfud.

Dozens of priority agenda recommendations for accelerating legal reform were produced by four Pokja, namely the Working Group for Judicial Reform and Law Enforcement, the Agrarian Sector Working Group and Natural Resources, the Corruption Prevention and Eradication Working Group, and the Legislation Sector Working Group.

In addition, the Team for the Acceleration of Legal Reform has intensely worked throughout June-August 2023, and has discussed various stages, a series of activities to collect data and information, including through consultations with leaders of Ministries and Institutions, as well as civil society groups.

Meanwhile, Prof. Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, as chairman of the Working Group for Judicial Reform and Law Enforcement, said that all Pokja had agreed on the results of the recommendation.

"Pokja not only conducts partial discussions, but also conducts discussions together with all Pokja, so that each Pokja knows and agrees on recommendations from other Pokja," he said.
