Jakarta Air Pollution Makes Residents Attacked By Diseases, FUBI Will File A Lawsuit

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Clean Air Forum (FUBI) plans to file a claim for compensation for Jakarta air pollution because now many residents are experiencing respiratory problems.

Executive Director of the Committee for the Elimination of Pambal Gasoline (KPBB) Ahmad Safrudin as the representative of FUBI said that this lawsuit would be filed as an effort to demand compensation for the costs incurred by the public due to being affected by air pollution.

"Form a class action lawsuit, the lawsuit of several people representing the people of Jakarta who were harmed by air pollution. So, this community representative will prove that they were affected by air pollution and lost a total of rupiah," said Safrudin when contacted by VOI, Sunday, August 27.

In this case, the parties who will become defendants are companies suspected of being the perpetrators of air pollution. This company is not only located in Jakarta, but also in the buffer zone.

"There are many suspects. Not only in Jakarta, but also in Bodetabek. We are still investigating this. For example, in Pulogadung there are nine largest companies. Then at several border points in Jakarta such as Tangerang, Cikarang, there are also many. So, we are not limited to areas, the important thing is that the company pollutes, we will target," explained Safrudin.

Not only companies, but other parties who will be defendants in this case are the government, especially the Ministry of Industry. Safrudin continued, the Governor of DKI Jakarta and regional heads in the buffer zone were also the defendants.

"What DKI will definitely be affected, we suspect. We haven't checked properly, but there is already a company case in Cakung. From the provincial government it will also definitely become a defendant because if for example we sue the company, later in court it will be declared less defendant," he said.

The plan is that the compensation lawsuit will be filed in the next two weeks. Currently, Safrudin said that his party was collecting data related to residents who wanted to sue.

The number of residents who have joined the lawsuit plan has reached 50 people and the figure is still increasing. It is estimated that the value of compensation demanded by residents in this lawsuit that will be filed in court will reach Rp. 51.2 trillion.

"The value of Rp. 51.2 trillion is calculated. We calculate it like this, for example we check hospitals in Jakarta, we find the total cases of treatment for ARI, asthma, pneumonia, COPD,ile heart, and bronchitis," said Safrudin.

"Of the various types of diseases, the number of cases will be increased, then multiplied by the price of treatment. The price of treatment already has data from the Ministry of Health, then we found the figure of Rp. 51.2 trillion," he added.
