Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, explained the reason the government decided to impose a ticket for vehicles that had not or did not pass the emission test in the capital city.

Asep said that the appeal to the public to carry out emission tests on their vehicles had been carried out since 2019 through the governor's instructions.

Then since 2021, the DKI Provincial Government and Polda Metro Jaya have also carried out emission test raids as socialization to motorists and there has been no ticketing. However, after the socialization was completed, the awareness of vehicle owners for emission tests decreased again.

"In 2021, we have carried out emission ticketing tests, simultaneously people flocked to emission tests. After that (ticketing) did not happen, immediately went down. Only 5 percent of the people wanted to test emissions. Imagine, 95 percent of the people didn't want to test emissions," said Asep in a virtual discussion, Thursday, August 24.

Finally, the emission test ticket was decided to be applied. Asep hopes that this law enforcement effort will make the public aware to immediately conduct an emission test as an effort to control air quality in Jakarta.

"If it is ticketed, there is personal awareness. Thank God the regional police will synergize with us," said Asep.

Asep said that residents can also conduct free emission tests in hundreds of workshops to make it easier for the public ahead of the implementation of the emission test ticket in Jakarta.

"There will be a fine by the police who will be subject to a ticket for the process in court, this week's relief we invite workshops with emission test services to ratify services for Jakarta residents," he said.

This free emission test service is available in hundreds of workshops that are already connected to the system owned by the DKI Provincial Government. The list of workshops serving free emission tests for two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles can be seen in the JAKI application.

"We have collected all the workshops with emis test services so that residents before the raid can carry out free emission tests. Several workshops that have been connected to us have more than 300 workshops for cars and 119 workshops for two-wheeled vehicles. It can be accessed at JAKI, which is located," said Asep.

For information, the Emission Test Task Force consisting of elements of the DKI Provincial Government, the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, and the Permanent Garnisun Command I/Jakarta will start ticketing motorized vehicles that have not or have not passed the emission test in Jakarta starting September 1, 2023.

This vehicle raid is law enforcement of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation and Regulation of Governor Number 66 of 2020 concerning Motor Vehicle Exhaust Emission Tests.

Before the ticket is applied, the Emission Test Task Force will conduct trials or pre-razia operations in various areas in DKI Jakarta on Friday, August 25, 2023.
