1.5 Million North Sumatran Residents Become Drug Users, Governor Edy: Want To Syndicate Whatever We Want To Solve

The Governor of North Sumatra (Gubsu) Edy Rahmayadi said that drug trafficking and abuse are problems that must be handled together in the local area.

"Drug abuse must be taken seriously and together, we will continue to work on this," said Edy Rahmayadi when confirming 4,500 Anti-Drug Volunteers in Medan as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 22.

He said strengthening rehabilitation programs and prevention approaches through education and socialization campaigns to the community were also being encouraged.

"We have made every effort to drug, mobilize all TNI/Polri, including journalists, we have all made education," said Edy Rahmayadi.

The former Pangdam I Bukit Barisan hopes that the formation of 4,500 anti-drug volunteers in 33 districts/cities throughout North Sumatra can help reduce the prevalence of drug users in the region.

"If the people come down, the Dutch just bring the cannons destroyed, the people who act, especially this, want a syndicate or whatever, I'm sure we will finish this together," explained Governor Edy.

Based on data from narcotics-prone areas by BNN in 2022, there are 1,192 areas with hazards and vigilance in North Sumatra. The number of drug users in North Sumatra until the last year was 1.5 million people or 10 percent of the total population.

"Nationally, our target is decreasing. Now we are at three million users, I want to go forward with only one million and go down to zero," said Governor Edy.
