The Attorney General's Office Appoints 15 Prosecutors To Check The Panji Gumilang Case Files

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has appointed 15 prosecutors to examine the completeness of the case file for the alleged blasphemy case with the suspect Panji Gumilang. The case file was originally submitted by investigators from the Directorate of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri on Wednesday, August 16. "A total of 15 prosecutors who have been appointed have made efforts to coordinate intensively and effectively with their team of investigators," said the Head of the AGO, Ketut Sumedana to reporters, Friday, August 18. The prosecutor's team is said to have 14 days to check the completeness of the case files, both material and formal. If the results of the examination of the case file are declared complete, the prosecutor will ask the investigative team to carry out stage two or transfer the suspect and evidence. On the other hand, files will be returned to investigators if deficiencies are found. "If in the next 14 days there is really enough evidence, meaning that it is appropriate for P21, investigators are only obliged to hand over the suspect and evidence. But if not, maybe we will coordinate with fellow investigators," said Ketut. Meanwhile, in the preparation of case files, investigators included the results of the examination of 41 witnesses and 18 experts. Panji Gumilang is suspected of having multiple articles. First, Article 14 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations which carries a penalty of 10 years in prison. Then, Article 45A paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE with a threat of 6 years in prison.

Finally, Panji Gumilang was also charged with Article 156 A of the Criminal Code. In this article, the penalty is 5 years in prison.
