Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the 2024 health budget was set at 5.6 percent of the APBN or an 8.1 percent increase compared to 2023.

"With the increase in the budget, of course, it will be homework for the Ministry of Health to immediately complete the targets of the President, especially to carry out promotive and preventive programs, namely to keep the community from falling ill," said Budi Gunadi Sadikin in a statement reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 16.

He said the government was committed to increasing its health budget, as part of efforts to create healthy and productive human resources.

For 2024, the health budget is planned at IDR 186.4 trillion or 5.6 percent of the state budget. That number increased by 8.1 percent or the equivalent of IDR 13.9 trillion, compared to this year's budget.

Budi said, Indonesia is one of the countries that has succeeded in dealing with the health crisis and restoring the economy quickly and well after the severe shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Economic growth over the past seven quarters, since the end of 2021, Budi said, has consistently been above 5.0 percent. Fast and strong economic recovery has brought Indonesia to class, re-entering the high-middle-income country group in 2022.

"Alhamdulillah, Indonesia has succeeded in overcoming the big challenges caused by the pandemic with good results," he said.

In the last five years the health budget has continued to increase. From IDR 119.9 trillion in 2020, to IDR 124.4 trillion in 2021, to IDR 134.8 trillion in 2022, to IDR 172.5 trillion in 2023, and IDR 186.4 trillion in 2024.

Budi explained that the health budget in 2024 is also allocated for the transformation of the health system, encouraging a strong and competitive pharmaceutical industry, improving access and quality of primary services and referrals, and ensuring the availability of reliable health care facilities from upstream to downstream.

In addition, the allocation is also to streamline the National Health Insurance (JKN) program, as well as accelerate the reduction in stunting prevalence to reach 14 percent in 2024 which is carried out through the expansion of prevention coverage for all districts/cities in Indonesia by strengthening the synergy of various institutions.
