BOGOR - Bogor Regency Government, West Java, has set an emergency alert status for drought and forest and land fires (karhutla) until October 31, 2023.

"We issue this status so that efforts are made to handle emergency alerts for drought and forest and land fires are fast, precise and integrated," said Acting Regent of Bogor Iwan Setiawan as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 16.

This emergency alert status is determined through Circular Number: 300.2/11/SE -SDB/BPBD concerning Emergency Alert for Drought Disasters and Forest and Land Fires in the Bogor Regency Area.

This status was issued following up on the analysis of data conducted by the West Java Climatology Station, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and considering existing conditions.

Iwan Setiawan explained, data from the Bogor Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) for the period May 2 - August 14, 2023, estimated the impact of drought or water crises spread across 33 villages/kelurahan in 13 sub-districts in the area.

So, he said, maximum handling is needed to minimize the impact of disasters by mobilizing all existing potentials.

"By mobilizing the potential human resources, available facilities and infrastructure and financing, so as to minimize the impact of disasters," explained Iwan Setiawan.

He also ordered all regional apparatus heads, sub-district heads, and village heads throughout Bogor Regency to actively monitor and map areas affected by drought.

The Bogor Regency Government through BPBD has distributed 550,000 liters of clean water to affected communities for three months experiencing drought.

This clean water assistance was sent by officers using tank cars belonging to the Bogor Regency BPBD and the Regional Public Company (Perumda) of Drinking Water Tirta Kahuripan.

The Bogor Regency BPBD noted that there were around 53,105 people from 16,526 families affected by the clean water crisis due to drought in 33 villages/kelurahan.
