2024 Election: People Must Understand When To Compete And Side By Side

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, spoke about the DPR's supervision of the implementation of the 2024 General Election. Power, said Puan, is meaningless if it actually divides the people.

In the Plenary Session of the Opening of the First Session Period of the 2023-2024 Session Year of the DPR, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will submit the Draft Law (RUU) on the State Budget for the 2024 Fiscal Year along with a Financial Note and supporting documents to the DPR.

Pressing on the DPR's supervisory side, Puan invites all elements of the nation to uphold peace in the 2024 General Election.

"It means nothing power if the people split into pieces of society with revenge, hate each other and hate each other," said Puan at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Wednesday, August 16.

He added that the main foundation for developing the country is the unity of the people. According to Puan, differences of opinion in elections are a natural thing, but unity is the main thing that must be upheld.

"The Indonesian nation should be loyal to its original nature, namely a nation that is different but united by Pancasila. All of us, elements of the Indonesian nation, should understand and understand when it is time to compete and when to return to side by side," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

Puan said democracy and elections are tools with the aim of the people's welfare. Another goal is to create justice and prosperity for the Indonesian people.

"That the people have the wrong goal, that the people are united, the goal is peaceful," said Puan.

Puan also emphasized the importance of democracy running peacefully. He appealed to all elements of the Indonesian nation and people to prioritize peaceful elections in order to avoid division.

"The DPR RI in accordance with its constitutional authority will oversee the 2024 General Election so that it can run democratically, honestly and fairly," said Bung Karno's grandson.
