Cash Assistance Of IDR 250 Million And Logistics For 3,141 People Victims Of The Sigi Earthquake Arrived Today

SULTENG - A total of two sub-districts in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi), were affected by an earthquake. Assistance from BNPB in the form of ready-to-use funds (DSP) worth Rp250 million, arrived today.

The Bnatuan was intended for affected victims in Nokilaki and Palolo sub-districts. In addition to cash, assistance is also in the form of logistics such as basic necessities, tarpaulins, mattresses, refugee tents, sewers, generators, and ready-to-eat food.

"The Head of BNPB hopes that this assistance can be useful and can alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the earthquake," said BNPB Expert Brigadier General Jahidin Chilo in his statement, Thursday, August 10, which was confiscated by Antara.

Assistance for victims affected by the earthquake was handed over to the Sigi Regency Government on Wednesday, August 9, then the local village officials were escorted directly to the affected communities.

The assistance that arrived at the affected location included 200 food packages, 160 tarpaulins and 500 units. Meanwhile, on Thursday 10 August, other assistance also arrived, which included 500 mattresses, 500 blankets, 300 food packages, 5 generators, 500 packaging rendangs, 2 sets of refugee tents, and 590 tarpaulin units.

Jahidin appealed to local governments to coordinate with relevant regional government organizations (OPD) for steps after the disaster or at the recovery stage, especially in repairing damaged houses and public facilities so that they can be followed up immediately.

"During the transition period from emergency response to recovery, local governments can coordinate with related agencies, if there is a need in terms of improvement and recovery after the disaster, please propose to BNPB so that we can immediately follow up," he said.

Jahidin asked local governments to actively carry out trauma healing as well as educate the public regarding the threat of earthquakes to watch out for.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 rocked Sigi Regency on Sunday, August 6 evening. Based on data compiled by the BNPB Operations Control Center as of Wednesday, August 9, 3,141 people were affected, 1 person was slightly injured and 2,888 people were displaced.

A total of 281 houses were lightly damaged and 14 houses were heavily damaged. The earthquake also damaged 3 school buildings, 2 places of worship and caused landslides, so that it buried a bridge which is a Trans Tongoa-Lembankongoa road.

BNPB urges residents and local governments to remain vigilant and ready for potential aftershocks. Local governments and local communities can re-examine the structure of the house after the earthquake and can evacuate to the location that has been determined by the relevant regional authorities to minimize casualties due to the rubble of the house building if at any time there is a follow-up earthquake.
