BENGKULU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bengkulu City asked all people, especially in the six regions to be vigilant because it is included in a tsunami-prone area.

The six areas are Lempuing Sub-District, Malabero Sub-District, Berkas Sub-District, Drop Sub-District, Beringin Raya Sub-District, and Pasar Bengkulu Sub-District.

"For Bengkulu City, there are six areas that are disaster-prone areas because they are directly close to the shoreline," said Bengkulu City BPBD Chief Executive Will Hopi in Bengkulu City, Antara, Thursday, August 10.

The determination of the six tsunami-prone areas came from a BNPB study conducted with the BPBD and the Bengkulu Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Thus, this potential is seen from the highest risk in the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis that occur in Bengkulu City.

There are 100 signs that have been installed in the six sub-districts to be formed into disaster-resilient areas which are assistance from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

"The signs that have been installed consist of directions for evacuation if a tsunami occurs in Bengkulu City," he said.

Meanwhile, to anticipate public panic when facing a natural disaster situation, the Bengkulu City Government launched an education program about disasters that was implemented early and carried out continuously starting from the PAUD, SD, SMP and even SMA levels.

"We have ordered the Education and Culture Office (Dikbud) of Bengkulu City to educate children from an early age starting at the early childhood, kindergarten, elementary, junior high to high school levels. We make simulations maybe every three months or every six months, so we are always vigilant. because our area is vulnerable," said Deputy Mayor of Bengkulu Dedy Wahyudi.

The disaster education program will be carried out in the new school year or early 2024 currently the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and Bengkulu City Education and Culture are preparing this plan and the government will issue a Mayor Regulation (Perwal).

In addition, through the Socialization of Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Contingency Plans (Renkon), it is one of the government's efforts to reduce disaster risk and minimize the impact of a disaster.
