Called Egg Sold For IDR 4 Million, What's Special?

JAKARTA - Eggs are one of the most common food ingredients found in the kitchen. The affordable price makes it a popular source of protein in many circles. Usually, the price of eggs is sold for IDR 2000 per item.

However, it is different from an egg in Scotland, England, which costs 200 pounds or IDR 4 million. This unique egg was bought by Ed Pownell, a man from Lambourn, Berkshire after he enjoyed several glasses of drinks.

He bought the egg to donate it to the Iuventas Foundation, a foundation providing assistance, life training, and mental health support for teens in Oxfordshire.

At first, the foundation thought the donation was a joke before finally deciding to sell it. Roz Rapp, a representative from the foundation, expressed his joy after the egg was sold.

"We are very happy and surprised that this egg was sold, because it means we can continue our work," he said, quoted by VOI from the BBC website on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Rapp explained that this round egg was only one of the items auctioned to support the foundation, and the total funds collected from this auction reached 5,000 pounds or Rp102 million rupiah.

These rare eggs were originally found by a woman in a box from a local supermarket in Ayr, Scotland. Pownell, who bought the egg, called its spending a "well spent money."

David Miller, who works at Thomson Roddick Callan's auction house, where the eggs say that eggs like this are very rare to find. Because, the ratio is 1 in 1 billion.

"The money collected from this auction will greatly help 13 to 25-year-olds struggling with mental health problems. It also allows us to reach more youths who need support or who are on a long waiting list," said Roz Rapp.

With the results of this auction, the foundation hopes to continue to provide assistance to more teenagers in need. This ensures they not only get support, but also the opportunity to overcome the mental challenges they face.
