Moments Of Jokowi And The Ambassadors Riding The MRT, Foreign Minister: Message For ASEAN In Line With Achieved Joint Goals

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the moment President Joko Widodo invited the ambassadors to ride the MRT (Integrated Mode) was a message that ASEAN by driving together could achieve the same goal.

Before attending the commemoration of ASEAN 56th Anniversary at the ASEAN Secretariat Building, Tuesday, President Jokowi invited the ASEAN state ambassadors and partner countries to board the MRT from the HI Roundabout Station to ASEAN Station, Jakarta.

"Earlier, the President was at the MRT with the ambassadors of ASEAN and we talked about our partners, so ride together. Together with ASEAN to reach our common destination, peace, stability and property in the region, and that is the message of the President when riding the MRT with the ambassador," said Foreign Minister Retno, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 8.

The Foreign Minister explained that President Jokowi gave a strong message when inviting the ambassadors to ride the MRT, namely together with ASEAN to achieve the same goal, namely peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

In addition, Retno assessed that President Jokowi's message in his remarks on the commemoration of the 56th ASEAN Anniversary was very strong, namely that the large ship of the United Nations of Southeast Asia or ASEAN must continue to sail and must not sink.

In his remarks, the President emphasized that the ASEAN ship is a shared responsibility for the hundreds of souls in it.

"ASEAN as a large ship must continue to move forward, this large ship must sail, this large ship must not sink, because this is our responsibility for hundreds of lives, the people in it," said the President in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Jokowi said ASEAN is an example of the diversity of harmony complementing and strengthening each other. The existing differences are not an obstacle to realizing ASEAN's determination and ideals.

He again called on ASEAN with strong assets to be able to become a center of world growth or epicenter of growth that provides more benefits to the people in the region and the world.

The Head of State said that in September 2023, the ASEAN 43rd Summit will be held.

As chairman, Indonesia wants to lay a strong foundation for ASEAN so that ASEAN is able to face the challenges and responsiveness of the dynamics and play a central role.
