Rocky Gerung and Refly Harun Arrested for Insulting President Jokowi

JAKARTA - Political observer Rocky Gerung and Constitutional Law Expert Refly Harun have been taken into police custody at Polda Metro Jaya. They were reported by United Indonesia Volunteers for allegedly insulting President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"The report has been received at SPKT Polda Metro Jaya," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko when confirmed, Tuesday, August 1.

Reporting on both of them was registered under the number LP/B/4459/VII/2023/POLDA METRO JAYA, dated 31 July 2023.

Separately, the General Chairperson of United Indonesia Volunteers, Lisman Hasibuan said Rocky Gerung's statement which was considered insulting Jokowi had caused uproar.

"We as volunteers and the people of Indonesia are very disturbed and this has caused uproar, so we reported it to Polda Metro Jaya and at the same time we are also reporting the spreader of the video," said Lisman.

Meanwhile, the reason for reporting Refly was because he was considered involved. This is because him as a Constitutional Law Expert, disseminated it through social media accounts.

"Why? Because the dictions that were built by Rocky Gerung himself and the statements in one of the forums that were distributed through the YouTube channel were already very unethical because he strongly attacked the head of state who today is led by Mr. Jokowi," said Lisman.

In that report, Rocky Gerung and Refly Harun allegedly violated Article 28 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 45A paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE and/or Article 156 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 160 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 14 paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 and/or Article 15 Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations.
