Become A TIP Suspect Since 2019, 2 New Perpetrators Have Been Handed Over To The Ngada Prosecutor's Office

LABUAN BAJO - Ngada Resort Police (Polres), East Nusa Tenggara, has only handed over two perpetrators of the crime of trafficking in persons (TPPO) to the local state prosecutor's office (jari) even though they have been suspects since 2019.

"Two perpetrators were named as suspects in 2019," said Ngada Police Chief AKBP Padmo Arianto as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, July 29.

The police chief explained the reason for the long legal process of the case, among others, was because the positions of witnesses and suspects outside Ngada Regency as well as the results of the assessment and compensation (restitution) from LPSK were also relatively long.

This case began when two suspects named Stanislaus Mamis (64) and Rela Eustakius (57) recruited MSW victims (15) to work as domestic workers (PRT) in Jakarta.

The victim is not equipped with any documents as a prospective labor worker. However, the person concerned was given a wage or salary promise of Rp. 1.5 million per month in 2015.

In that year, the victim worked as a domestic worker in three houses, but never got paid or paid at all.

Because the salary was not given, the victim fled in September 2017. The victim was then secured by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) because he was suspected of being a homeless person.

The victim was taken to a shelter with a mental disorder for 2 months for rehabilitation, then taken to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Social Service for temporary storage for a month.

The existence of the victim is known by the Working Group against Human Trafficking. The victim was then taken by officers to the Sister of the Jakarta Good Shepherd Congregation for rehabilitation for 3 weeks.

"Before being facilitated by the repatriation by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), IOM's internal assessment explained that the victim was a victim of trafficking in persons," he said.

Thanks to a support from the Working Group against Human Trafficking, the victim reported the incident to the Ngada Police in January 2018.

Since being named a suspect in 2019, the legal process has been relatively long because of the presence of witnesses and suspects outside the Ngada area.

Examination of eight witnesses and two experts as well as confiscation of documents related to the recruitment of prospective workers.

After processing starting in 2019, the file was declared complete, the Ngada Police handed over the suspect and evidence (Phase II) to the public prosecutor (JPU) of the Ngada District Attorney on Wednesday (26/7).

For this action, the perpetrators are suspected of Article 6 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code, Article 6 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons.
