JAKARTA - The Secretary-General of the United Nations reminded that "the global warming era has arrived" where this July the climate reaches the hottest of all time.
"Climate change has happened. It's terrible, and this is just the beginning. The warm earth era is over; the global warming era has arrived," Antonio Guterres told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York.
"The leaders must lead. There should no longer be any doubt. There is no more reason. No one is waiting for who will act first. There is no longer time for that," Guterres continued.
July became the hottest month ever, the World Meteorological Organization and the Corporate Climate Change Service of the European Commission said.
Data from the two weather agencies shows that this month there is the highest sea temperature ever this year.
Guterres said the temperature increase could be limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius to avoid the worst climate change.
The 2015-approved Paris Climate Agreement sought to limit global warming to well below 2 C, but better by 1.5 C by the end of the century to combat climate change requested by the agreement to each country to reduce emissions by half by 2030 and down to zero emissions by 2050.
"We need an ambitious new national emission reduction target from G-20 members," Guterres said.

He urged companies, cities, regions and financial institutions to attend the Climate Ambitious Conference with a credible change plan.
"There is no more greenwashing. There is no more fraud. And there is no more blatant distortion of antitrust laws to sabotage the zero-emission alliance," Guterres said.
Greenwashing is a marketing and communication strategy to get an environmentally friendly image, even though it is not very serious about carrying out activities that have a positive impact on the environment.
"The evidence is everywhere: Humans cause destruction. This must not give birth to despair, but action. We can still stop the worst," concluded Guterres.
