The General Election Commission (KPU) provides three special polling stations (TPS) in the 2024 General Election at the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Indramayu, West Java, as requested by the pesantren.

"At Al Zaytun, three special polling stations were provided at the request or submission from the pesantren," said KPU member Idham Holik to reporters as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 14.

Idham explained that the placement of the special TPS was outside the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School complex so that witnesses, voting monitors, the public, and journalists could witness the giving and counting of votes at the special location polling station.

The provision of special TPS at the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School is in accordance with the provisions of KPU Regulation Regulation (PKPU) Number 7 of 2022 concerning the Preparation of Voter Lists in the Implementation of General Elections and Voter Data Information Systems.

"In accordance with the regulation, special polling stations can be provided when there are submissions and the person in charge," he said.

The head of Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School previously submitted a request for the provision of special TPS through Letter Number 080/A/Pan-Pemilu-o/VIII-11444/III-2023 addressed to the Chairman of the KPU Indramayu Regency dated March 13, 2023.

The letter was signed by the Acting Special TPS of Mahad Al Zaytun Ali Aminulloh and Syaikh Al Zaytun Abdussalam Panji Gumilang. In the letter, Panji stated that there are 825 Al Zaytun students who already have the right to vote. Therefore, Panji asked the KPU to establish a special TPS around the Islamic boarding school so that it is easy for students to vote.

Previously, the name Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School was widely discussed by the public because its activities were deemed not in accordance with Islamic teachings. The leader of the boarding school, namely Panji Gumilang, is also suspected of committing a criminal act.

Bareskrim Polri received two police reports against Panji Gumilang, namely a report from the Pancasila Defenders Forum (FAPP) on Friday (23/6) and from the Islamic State of Indonesia (NII) Crisis Center Ken Setiawan on Tuesday (27/6) related to allegations of blasphemy.
