Victim Dragged By Flood Flow In Malang Last Week Found Dead In Jenawi River

The joint team found the victim who was swept away by the current in the Bantar River, on Friday (7/7) in a dead condition. The victim was found on the edge of the Jenawi River, Tumpangrejo Village, Malang Regency.

Head of Public Relations of Malang Police, Iptu Ahmad Taufik, said the victim was found on Tuesday (11/7) at approximately 15.00 WIB on behalf of Supandri (58), a resident of Krajan Hamlet, RT15/03, Bantar Village.

"It is true that it was found yesterday, at around 15.00 WIB," said Taufik, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 12.

Taufik explained that the search by the joint team had been carried out since the victim was reported to have been swept away by the Bantar River, and had only produced results on Tuesday (11/7). The victim was found dead after a search for approximately five days.

After being found by the search team, the victim's body was then carried out an external examination by the medical team. The family believes that the body found on the banks of the Jenawi River, Tumpakrejo Village, was a victim of Supandri.

The family refused to take an autopsy on Supandri's body because they realized that the incident of the victim being dragged into the Bantar River was purely an accident.

"After an external examination together with the medical officers and the family believed that the body was Supandri's brother. The family also refused an autopsy and realized that the incident was purely an accident," he said.

On Friday (7/7), Supandri was reported to have been swept away by the current during the overflow of water in the Bantar River, in the RT15/3 area of Krajan Hamlet, Bantar Village, Bantar District. The incident occurred at approximately 13.30 WIB, when there was flooding at a number of points in Malang Regency.

The incident began when the Malang Regency was rained with high intensity since Thursday (6/7) and caused the river flow to overflow in Krajan Hamlet.

At that time, the victim and other residents tried to clean the wood stuck on the bridge with a length of 20 meters and a width of approximately 1.5 meters. However, while trying to get rid of the wood, the victim was swept away by the current.

Floods and landslides occurred in a number of areas in Malang Regency, on Friday (7/7). The disaster caused hundreds of families to be affected and disrupted by a number of accesses such as roads and electricity.
