In A Day 22 Hotspots Occur East Kalimantan, Most In Kutai Kartanegara

BALIKPAPAN - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected 22 hotspots indicating the initial forest and land fires in the East Kalimantan Province during the observation period Sunday 9 July from 01.00 to 24.00 WITA. According to the Coordinator of Data and Information at the Class I Meteorological Station Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan-Balikpapan Diyan Novrida during that period hotspots were detected in West Kutai Regency (1), East Kutai (18), Kutai Kartanegara (2), and Berau (1). One hotspot was monitored in Bongan District in West Kutai; one hot spot was observed in Segah District in Berau; two hotspots were observed in Kembang Janggut and Muara Muntai Districts in Kutai Kartanegara; and 18 hotspots were detected in Bengalon District in East Kutai. "Everything has an intermediate level of confidence," said Diyan, quoted by ANTARA, Monday 10 July.

He said that information regarding the distribution of hotspots had been submitted to the Provincial and Regency Level Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) so that it was followed up with mitigation measures. Diyan appealed to residents not to take actions that could cause fires such as throwing cigarette butts carelessly and burning to open agricultural land.
