Facing The 2024 General Election, The National Police Reactivates The Nusantara Task Force

JAKARTA - The National Police has reactivated the Nusantara Task Force to face the 2024 general election (Pemilu). The goal is to prevent polarization and things that can disrupt the democratic party.

"For the formation meeting, it has been held, at this time it may just have to wait for the administration," said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Sandi Nugroho to reporters, Friday, July 7.

Later, the Nusantara Task Force tasked with the cooling system will cooperate with relevant stakeholders. Then, provide understanding through socialization to avoid polarization.

"So that with the temporary Task Force, the National Police will cooperate with all relevant stakeholders and all components of society in order to create peaceful elections for Indonesia to be even more advanced," said Sandi.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo conveyed the readiness of his institution in facing the 2024 Simultaneous Elections. Sigit acknowledged that polarization due to identity politics is a challenge for the Police, which needs to be anticipated properly.

Initially, the National Police Chief mentioned several challenges from the National Police in organizing the upcoming elections. Namely the potential for officers to fatigue due to simultaneous implementation times, the delay in sending election logistics to the polling location.

"And there may also be polarization in the midst of society if we don't anticipate this properly," said Sigit at a Working Meeting with Commission III of the DPR, at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta.

Even so, said Sigit, the National Police has collaborated through the extension of a memorandum of understanding with the KPU and Bawaslu. This is the basis for building synergy in the field to realize the holding of simultaneous elections with quality and integrity.

Therefore, Sigit said, the National Police will establish 12 national houses to unite all elements of society in an effort to prevent polarization.

"We hope that it will cool the system as a forum to unite various elements of society to prevent divisions or polarization that will occur," he explained.

Sigit ensured that the National Police would also pay attention to the complexity of holding other elections, namely the potential for negligence of officers and sending election logistics.

The National Police, he said, had prepared special Brimob personnel to secure elections that were members of the Rapid Response Force (PRC).

"The PRC is the power on hand of the National Police Chief, Dankorbrimob, and Kapolda which are ready to be mobilized at any time and anywhere to deal with the situation of contingency," he explained.

Not only that, Brimob troops at the National Police Headquarters and each Regional Police will be divided into VII zoning throughout Indonesia to facilitate mobilization.

"Where each zoning will back up each other up. However, they still pay attention to the needs of personnel in their area of origin, in order to anticipate the escalation of disturbances in Kamtibmas," said Sigit.
