JAKARTA - The Lampung Regional Police together with the local provincial government and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) facilitated the return of 24 victims of the criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) to their home area in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
The Head of Public Relations of the Lampung Regional Police, Kombes Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, said that his party was escorting and assisting prospective Indonesian migrant workers (PMI), who were almost victims of TIP, so they could return to their hometown safely.
"The return of 24 Indonesian migrant workers from NTB Province was facilitated by BP2MI Lampung in accordance with Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers," Pandra said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.
The 24 NTB residents were rescued by the Lampung Police TIP Task Force Team which thwarted the illegal departure of PMI candidates to the Middle East.
The plan is for dozens of PMI candidates, all of whom are women, to be sent to be employed as household assistants (ART).
In this case, the Lampung Police have named four people as suspects who are a network of PMI recruiters illegally.
According to Pandra, the repatriation of 24 TIP victims to their place of origin is proof of the cooperation and inter-institutional synergism in preventing and eradicating TIP.
