KEDIRI - Kediri Class II A Prison Officer, East Java, managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine and illegal drugs with the mode of being put into a catfish head.

Head of the Kediri Class II A Correctional Institution (Lapas) Muhammad Hanafi said the case was revealed during an inspection of the belongings of the inmates in the form of snacks, fruits, and vegetables. During the search, officers suspected catfish vegetables wrapped in plastic.

"The drugs are put into three fish heads. The contents are in each fish head of more than 3 grams," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 14.

The total amount of crystal methamphetamine confiscated from the fish's head weighed 9.60 grams. The prohibited items were put in the fish's head.

According to him, the smuggling practice was carried out by someone who tried to smuggle methamphetamine by entrusting it to someone to be sent to prison residents.

He explained that drug smuggling efforts were carried out several times by irresponsible persons and were successfully thwarted. The effort was also with various modes.

In fact, previously he had received a short message from an unknown person who asked him not to take action against drug dealers in Kediri.

For this reason, his party is more active in preventing drug trafficking in Kediri Prison and one of them is by entering the fish head.

"So there was communication this morning, if there is anything going in. Therefore I assign kamtib to guard outside," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Kediri City Police Satreskoba AKP Ipung Herianto said that his party would carry out legal proceedings against the perpetrators who tried to smuggle methamphetamine into the Kediri prison.

The police have asked for information from B, who sent the item. The perpetrator had previously been called by someone to deliver food to one of the prison residents.

"The caller also asked the perpetrator to go to prison with a woman," he said.

Currently, the police are still pursuing the perpetrator who asked B to send goods to the prison. Meanwhile, for B, the police also charged him with a crime.

"We will apply it according to the applicable rules of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics Articles 114 and 112, a minimum of six years in prison," he said.
