Government Disburses IDR 760 Billion To Build Borders In Maluku

AMBON - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) M Tito Karnavian said the central government disbursed Rp760 billion for the construction of border areas in Maluku through the Border Integrated Development Movement (Gerbangdutas).

"There are several districts in Maluku that are the government's focus, namely Tanimbar Islands Regency, Southwest Maluku Regency and Aru Islands Regency," said M Tito Karnavian who is also the Chairman of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) at a press conference at the Maluku Governor's office in Ambon City as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 14.

"We see that the budget in Bappenas, Gerbangdutas is IDR 7.7 trillion, but it is spread across various ministries/agencies and in local governments, while the total for Maluku is IDR 760 billion," he said.

According to him, conceptually the construction of border areas will focus not only on the defense aspect, more than that, economic centers and building from the outskirts of villages and borders.

"With this concept of BNPP, I as the chief executive of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs as Chairman of the Steering Committee, our concept is the concept of building these areas which comes from the budget at the central level in Bappenas and has been budgeted," he said.

According to him, the budget is divided into several ministries and institutions, but even though it is divided, the budget is only for the construction of border areas.

"We'll see from the budget portion, and don't use it for others because of its designation, for example for ministry A, it's for the border but it's not used within the border, it's our job to direct and supervise and conduct evaluations," he said.

Tito said that if the budget is managed by the local government, it will be included in the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) and only for Gerbangdutas.

"Then specifically for the budget areas, from the center of the mechanism is DAK. For example, the PUPR budget has a budget for building border roads, the regional roads themselves can also be carried out by the local government with money transferred named DAK to build certain roads, or certain bridges or certain runways. have this connection with the request for regional needs," he added.

Tito emphasized that the implementation of Gerbangdutas also needed to hear evaluation and direct input from the public.

"We want it to be built with a two-way mechanism. Not only from above to build according to what he wants but also to listen to what the proposed input from the desired area is there," he said.
