BANDA ACEH - The animal health team of the Aceh Tamiang Regency Agriculture, Plantation and Livestock Service (Distanbunak) took a blood sample of 445 cows in an effort to prevent brucellosis (Egue) which is currently attacking livestock.

"The number of cows that will be taken is 445 blood samples spread across seven villages and in four sub-districts," said Head of the Aceh Distanbunak Livestock Division, Tamiang Yunus, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 20.

He explained that the cow's blood sample was started today by involving all livestock officers with up to a week of working time. However, it is targeted that it can be completed in three days.

"Each team will take 65 samples in the seven villages. One village consists of eight people," he said.

The blood sample was aimed at early detection ofbrucellosis, although in Aceh Tamiang no case has been found. All medical equipment for animal blood samples was assisted by the Medan Veterinary Center.

"This blood sample was taken specifically for cattle, both male and female. We only took the blood, the samples would be sent and examined at the Medan Veterinary Center laboratory," he said.

This disease is a problem among farmers, because it has spread widely and causes economic losses. Brucellosis can also be transmitted to livestock such as goats and cows, even to humans if they consume their milk.

"Brucellosis sufferers can make a female cow miscarriage during childbirth. If a pedet cow (a calf aged 0-8 months) usually lives, it will usually experience premature death. It also affects the infertility of the female cow and injures the male cow's genitals," he said.
