JAKARTA - DPR member Junimart Girsang asked the National Police Chief to evaluate the performance of the North Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Panca Putra Simanjuntak due to the alleged drug embezzlement case committed by police officers in the area.

"I reiterated the commitment and consistency of the National Police Chief with the tagline, namely Presisi. The performance of the North Sumatra Police Chief must be evaluated regarding community services, law enforcement, and prosecution of law enforcement officers," Junimart said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 11.

He said this was related to the case of nine personnel from the Directorate of Drug Investigation (Ditresnarkoba) of the North Sumatra Police (North Sumatra) who smuggled 12 kilograms of evidence of methamphetamine.

Junimart assessed that the case of alleged embezzlement from drug arrests was not the first in North Sumatra, because previously it was suspected that five police officers in Medan had stolen drug evidence worth Rp1.5 billion.

According to him, the National Police Chief needed firmness in resolving legal problems at the North Sumatra Regional Police which allegedly involved police officers in the area.

"There are three cases that are still rampant in North Sumatra, namely drugs, gambling, and the land mafia. Currently, there are more and more rampant and 'protected' in North Sumatra, what I convey is facts and facts," he said.

The Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR assessed that the National Police Chief needed firmness to take a stand regarding the problems that occurred at the North Sumatra Regional Police, especially to improve public services, law enforcement, and take action against police officers.

Junimart admitted that he would report related crimes in North Sumatra to President Jokowi so that the central government would take part in reducing the crime rate in the region.

"As a servant of the people from North Sumatra, I will officially write to President Jokowi regarding the chaotic law enforcement in North Sumatra," he said.

Previously, on Saturday (6/5), nine personnel from the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate were reported to the Div Propam Police Headquarters for allegedly embezzling 12 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine evidence from the arrest of a shabu-shabu courier in Aceh.

The report was filed by Safaruddin, as M Yakub's attorney, a drug courier who was arrested on March 30, 2023.

Safaruddin explained that when he was arrested, his client was secured with evidence of 32 kilograms of methamphetamine. However, on the way, M Yakub was suddenly taken down by a police officer who arrested him and took pictures with 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine as evidence.

The Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Police, Kombes Hadi Wahyudi, said that M Yakub had been handed over to the prosecutor's office after the case file was declared complete.

Hadi denied that there had been allegations of embezzlement of 12 kilograms of evidence at the North Sumatra Regional Police.

"The case is already phase II. It doesn't exist, what is clear is that it is stage II," said Kombes Hadi.
