PALANGKA RAYA - Central Kalimantan Police noted that during January to April 2023 there were 12 people who were victims of extortion through video calls (VCS).
Five of the victims work as Civil Servants (PNS) and five of them are male.
"So the modus operandi of this perpetrator is usually to get acquainted with his victims on social media and give seduction until the victim falls in love with the perpetrator," he said, quoted by ANTARA, May 10.
After the perpetrators were able to convince the victim of falling in love, the perpetrator then invited the victim to do VCS.
However, when the victim showed sensitive body parts, the perpetrator did a screen recording through his personal cellphone.
Using the screen recording video, the perpetrator then began to carry out the act of extorting his victim by threatening to disseminate the indecent video.
"This scared the victim and immediately sent some money. There was even one victim who had sent Rp44 million with a total loss of Rp 56 million," said AKBP Erlan.
VOIR éGALEMENT:
The police appealed to the entire community not to do VCS with anyone, especially with people who are newly known on social media.
Because, this can be misused and used as a means of extortion by perpetrators which will only harm themselves.
"Love and affection are allowed, because it is the right of the whole community. But do not do things that violate norms and religion. Therefore it will only harm yourself. If it is spread, those who are ashamed are not only themselves, but also their families," said Erlan.
